Sustainable Events

There are literally hundreds of small, medium and large events and festivals that take place in our region every year.  These include country shows, music and art festivals.  The Sustaining our Towns project is working with the Candelo Festival being held in March 2011 to integrate sustainability into this event.

We will then develop a simple guide for integrating sustainability into small, community-based country events.  Then work with regional event organisers around the region to encourage them to integrate more sustainability features into the way these events are run.

Sustainable Events Training

Sustaining our Towns is hosting a sustainable events training course in Narooma on 27 and 28 February 2012.  The training is being subsidised by the NSW Government through its Green Skills program, and will be run by Green Shoot Pacific.   Download the Sustainable Event training flier.  To book call Bettina Richter on 6495 7117.

Sustainable Event Resources

EPA Victoria has developed the Event Ecological Footprint Calculator.  It can help organisers plan a low Footprint event by:

  • highlighting the main impacts of an event
  • helping to identify actions to avoid and reduce the impacts – for organisers, delegates, host venues and exhibitors
  • helping organisers plan and achieve a carbon neutral event

The Sustainable Living Foundation has developed The Sustainable Events Planner.  This is a simple online resource to help plan and run a sustainable event.
