Sustaining our Towns

About us

Sustainability – it’s our future.

Sustaining Our Towns is an exciting 3 year initiative from 2009-2012 for our region – South-Eastern NSW. We are a dynamic community 500,000 strong who live in a beautiful 60,000 square kilometre region of towns, mountains, bushland, rivers, farms and coastline.

From the Bega Valley to Eurobodalla, Yass Valley, Cooma-Monaro, Bombala, Palerang, Snowy River, Harden, Young, Boorowa, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Queanbeyan and the Upper Lachlan region we have the potential to lead the way in sustainable solutions for rural and coastal Australia.

To help build a sustainable future for our region, Sustaining Our Towns is offering a variety of programs and opportunities for you in your business, at home, at work or in the community to help reduce your ecological footprint.

The project started in September 2009 and will run through to March 2012.  Sustaining Our Towns is funded by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust. Project partners are SERRROC, Clean Energy for Eternity, the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority and the thirteen SERRROC Councils.

What We Do:

The project has a number of programs, each of which is designed to provide support, guidance, education and training to participants:

  • Homes Program (offering free Sustainability Reviews and Workshops)
  • Business Program (offering free Sustainability Assessments and support)
  • Regional Program (offering training and support to communities, individuals, councils and local sustainability leaders)

The project also aims to support one small Local Sustainability Project per Council area or Shire.
